About me

Name:                          Elizabeth Armstrong

Qualifications:            BA Hons English, PGCE English with Drama

Teaching Experience: I have over 15 years experience working in Post Primary schools in both England and Northern Ireland.  In Northern Ireland I have worked in both secondary and grammar schools.  I have experience working with SEN pupils both in small groups and as a class teacher.   I have also enjoyed challenging and stretching the most academically able pupils to reach top grades at both GCSE and A Level.

Safeguarding: as a registered supply teacher through Capita/CER DBS certificate number 0017158549278 although schools will need to do their own DBS checks.

I am a mum of three children, all of whom are of school age.  I love walking, cooking and travelling when I have ‘spare’ time! I have always been an avid reader, and enjoy sharing my passion with others.  However, I realise that for a variety of reasons reading for enjoyment isn’t something that comes easily or naturally for some, and without support and intervention can quickly become a barrier to many learning experiences in school.  My partner and youngest daughter both have dyslexia and this has, in recent years, given me an in-depth understanding and special interest in this area.   I have a gentle and empathetic approach towards teaching and learning; I understand that trust and good relationships are vital for any learning to take place.  I feel in one to one or small group sessions, this nurturing environment is much more achievable and tailor made study sessions can improve the confidence and therefore attainment much more effectively.

In school- Small group Tuition

Sessions are available for the tutor to focus on small groups of students, ideally between 2 and 5 in number.  By liaising with class teachers and department leaders individual pupils can be extracted from class and given extra support and mentoring on whatever area of the subject is required.  Intense tuition in a small group can help support the lowest attainers, those who have gaps in their learning for whatever reason and those who lack in confidence in a large class setting.  These sessions can also be used as a platform on which to ensure effective progress of the more able pupils, perhaps to teach more challenging topics and skills which are better suited to a ‘break away’ group outside the main teaching room.

In School- One to One Tuition

This is a guaranteed way to get a personalized and individual plan for the pupil, working with class teachers, parents, and where relevant SEN coordinators to get the best support for the child.

Private Tuition

Early evening one to one home or online tuition is available.  A tailored programme of study will be devised to support in school learning, this can be specific areas of curriculum that need to be revisited, exam skills, basic literacy skills and confidence building in the subject or a combination of all of these.

Not available weekends or bank holidays.

Costs

As I am a fully qualified degree level English teacher with 16 years’ experience and I am self-employed, I have holidays, professional indemnity insurance and tax to pay.

Please call me for a chat and we will agree on something that works for both of us.

Happy Mum
